Western Maryland Railway 2010 Wall Calendar: Chartered in 1852, with
construction beginning in Owings Mills in 1857, the Western Maryland Railway
was a spunky competitor to bigger railroads. Extending rails deep into the
heart of the Alleghenies, its track rose to 4,066 feet above sea level at
Spruce, West Virginia, the highest main line elevation of any railroad east
